Size of Bolts for 850 Air Guide (Splash Shield)

Post by rick4484 »

1996 850 Turbo Sedan

I'm looking for some bolts for the air guide (splash shield) #6808693 that attaches under the car to the front end. I ordered three clips from FCP, but they do not carry the bolts. There are two threaded holes under the car where the guide is attached. They appear to be M6, but the ones available from the hardware store are a 1.0 pitch, which does not thread into the holes. It appears to require more coarse threads than the ones I have.

Would anyone know the specifics on these original bolts? I've not yet tried the dealership, but I rather cut new threads with a tap than go there.

I think they are 1.0 mm pitch M6, maybe you need to chase the threads?

Thanks, I didn't think about chasing the threads. I just assumed the M6 1.0 were not similar threads. When I see 10mm, is that the hex size of the socket or wrench needed, and not the threads?

Yes, "10 mm" refers to the socket used on the bolt head. Threads are M6 1.0 as stated, just chase it.

Bolt and head are separate measurements.
Bolt referred to the part below the head.
  • A 10mm bolt (M10) bolt fits in a 10MM hole
    A 10mm Hex head requires a 10mm wrench

I need a ____ bolt with a ___ head. Fill in the blanks.

My 1995 has course threads. The bolt is about 1/2 inch in length. It has a 10mm head. It also has a washer, about 3/4 inch diameter.

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.

You can swipe one of the fender bolts to replace these , if you drop into the sewer grate underneath.

Then email me and I can send you a spare by usps
