Hi all, we have had an early T5 xc90 and it has been great. So great that now it is nearing the end of it's life (300,000kms) we are looking to upgrade.
2012 build D5 R-Design here in Australia. I am having a really hard time identifying what specs are native to this car, before any options.
Is it at all possible to get any build spec details from some kind of VIN lookup? I'm trying to avoid asking a dealer, as it is not a dealer car (private sale).
Is anyone able to offer any advice in regards to normal trim levels? Things like self levelling suspension (has tow ball), active bending lights, heated massage seats?
Can some kind of check give me all the build details I am looking for?
I haven't had a chance to view the car yet, my wife has and she likes it, but I would like to be armed with a bit more info before I go.
Any info appreciated!
Possible to get build details from VIN?

2015 VIDA has a live vehicle details area that allows the build data of the car with all its features. I know of no other way to get the info. The Volvo dealer service advisor/service greeter (not sure what you call the service guy in OZ) has VIDA that allows this on his workstation.

Does this require actually connecting to the car? Or could I ring them and ask them to run the VIN do you think?

Just requires VIN. Type it in vehicle profile field and click "Vehicle Details". There is more than one tab there. Things like variant attributes, options, and a couple of others.

Here's a sample cut-paste VIDA (2010D) readout from my 2008 taken a few weeks ago, nothing in there that I'm uncomfortable with sharing-
What I don't see is anything specific to the trim package (this particular car is a V8 Sport, an R-Design before they called it the R-Design). This is something I've been pursuing for a few years in an attempt to get production numbers for the Sport since it's been suggested that the 07-08 numbers were pretty low. Volvo has replied twice now suggesting they have no way of differentiating, I believe this is an incorrect statement but they're not budging.
I'm not sure how you can get trim package other than a visual, keeping in mind that there are a number of variations within trim packages out there (Halogens on an R-D for example, seen a few).
**Suspension (shocks/struts,springs, etc.) plus interior and paint codes are noted on the back of the passenger side B-pillar, bottom line on the black label.
edit 2/1/9- add **

Great thanks! I assume this info was extracted with the car connected? I had someone I Australia run the vin last night and was only able to get year/engine etc.
It's looking like it has leveling suspension and bending lights, no massage seats (no seeing controls for them).
What about stuff like lane assist/blind spot? These were part of a safety package?

Yes info is pulled from CEM of car (central module) while connected to Dice/Vida
If the car has been back to the dealer for option upgrades the CEM will also report these.
The info jimmy is speaking of is available by the rep connecting to the central Volvo database which should mirror the CEM unless someone has tinkered with programming outside of the dealership such as an addition of folding mirrors or heated seats by adding the option to the CEM by "cracking into" the CEM

Here is a screen shot showing the tabs. Variant Attributes is a detailed list, like a build sheet, maybe it is the build sheet as it exists in the Volvo system. I have all the pages printed out for my 2010 XC60. It shows features added like Polestar. It isn't called Polestar, it is something like enhanced performance ECM settings (car isn't home and the sheets are in glove box). Options shows the options like you would see on the window sticker and with order code number. The vehicle in this screen capture is my car.
