2001 V70XC - tie rod replacement Topic is solved

The VIDA procedure for replacing tie rod looks straight forward. IPD highlight correct size for inner tie rod. I've used Meyle for LCA. Is Meyle as good of a choice for tie rod -- inner and outer?

I've read here to stay away from Meyle.

I've been using Lemforder a lot, but it looks like TRW is the OE part on FCP. Perhaps someone else can chime in? Don't forget the tool too.

I think the only part that seems recommended with Meyle are the endlinks. I'd keep an eye on those lca bushings

I'd put some blue loctite on the tie rod threads and can use a pipe wrench (or that end tool the correct size) but ideally there is a also counter torque holding tool to keep from possibly damaging the rack seals when torquing.

There is Lemforder with inner, outer and boots. Thank you for pointing out the tool.
Amazon has one too. This looks interesting but may not work. Torque is 52ft-lb.

Meyle LCA was replaced under warranty the first time bushing failed. Thanks IPD.

I had a complete failure during a DIY on tie rod with our '97 850 which resulted in replacing the steering rack with TRW rebuilt. 2001 V70XC is SMI, I believe. Preparing to avoid '97 850 experience.

I used moog problem solver on mine recently. The inners were identical, and didn’t have the different thread. The outers also have grease fittings on them. I got them from advance, because I had a store credit there.

It seems like I rented a tool from advance to install them, but it didn’t fit. I just used a monkey wrench and didn’t have any trouble.

Reviewing procedure for tie rod replacement. The original outer tie rod is TRW, a lot muscular than the replacement LEMFORDER -- is the material science of LEMFORDER better even though it appears significantly sculpted?

The tools are coming. VIDA instruction points to "deflection limiter" - what is it? The diagram is relative to the driver's side inner tie rod.
