window controls

1998 V70 T5 wagon. I was lubricating the window guides. All windows worked from the driver's master control. Started using the rear passenger window control. Window went down/up/down/up/down and now won't move. Stuck wide open. Interior lights dim slightly when the rear passenger window control is activated but window doesn't respond at all. Nothing changed that I know of. This window also does not work using the driver master control. All other windows work from master control. Before I start replacing the rear passenger control, is this the likely problem? Seems odd that it would stop responding to both the rear passenger door control and the main control at the same time. Or is there some other more likely problem. Thanks.

If lights dim when you press the button, it means that there is some current drew, so it looks like the switch is working. Maybe check for a mechanical problem, something that blocks the window movement, or the motor itself.

i had an overlubricates window on a Ford once. thick grease can actually add quite some friction in cold weather.

The window works after a good night's sleep. Good thing. I have an hour of highway driving today and it's 15˚F right now. No need for window cardboard and snow pants inside. But why did this happen and will it recur? The car was outside at ~25˚F when I brought it into the garage. The window stopped working about 10 minutes later after lubricating the guides with lithium grease. I know silicone might be better (at least it's not white) but I didn't have any. And I don't think lithium grease should seize up at these temperatures. It's recommended for the window sliders (which, ironically I had just replaced on my 2004 XC70 not 30 minutes before the V70's window froze - no good deed goes unpunished). The V70 was in the garage ~45˚F overnight. Now it works. I'm hesitant to use that window. I don't have much use for it given that the rear passenger seat is rarely occupied.

I use silicone spray to lube. You probably just tripped the circuit breaker under the hood ( small metal boxes in the main fuse box ) which reset themselves after they cool off In 30 minutes or so
