Yes, it certainly could be the problem! I hope that the ball joint (control arm?) replacement takes care of it.

"ball joint"

I'm refering to the part joining the lower "A" arm to the "steering knuckle" (part #2745481. in VADIS).

Ordered the part through FCP Groton.

Will keep you informed if this is the fix.

Changed the ball joints last night.
Front definitely more rigid/solid.
No spring noise so far.
:)

Will give it a couple fo days to make sure though.

In the meantime, discovered that I had to replace the rear parking brake shoes while replacing the rear disks...

Based on your description of the sound (metal-on-rubber squeaky noise?) it makes me think that it's very likely to be a sway bar bushing, control arm bushing or ball joint. Try jacking the car one side at a time (to get the bar to twist a bit) with a floor jack, and while listening closely, let it down pretty quick. You SHOULD be able to duplicate your sound by doing this, it may take a few tries with the wheel turned this way or that. DON'T lube stuff ahead of time...you WANT to hear it so that you can isolate the noise and treat it permanently. Best of luck, let us know when you figure out what it is...

***EDIT*** Sorry man, somehow I completely missed your last post...glad you got it figured out!
Take care,

Ted

No problem.
Will remember the trick though.

p.s. Noise is definitely gone. Hopefully, the scantech ball joints will last...

Doh, bottom ball joint on the wishbone, the bolted on item. That sounds like it could be it.

If you dont get any more bedsprings, could you let us know after a good test, Ill then do the joints on my D5 V70 and post as to if it cures mine also.

Good on yer.

my 01xc70 (88k) was in for service on 11/18 for spring noise, Volvo's diagnostics determined the sound was coming from "rear sway bar link arms-replaced both sides." ($47 for each)

spring noises have ceased.

After month, Noise was mostly out.
Happening only in deep depression since the 24th... (merry christmas...)
Scantech lower ball joints defective?
I'm planning a visit at the garage in the next two weeks to replace worn out rear brake shoes.... so I'll have a look.

willl keep you posted.
in the meantime... Season's greetings
