Press for replacing upper torque mount

Post by clarkerussell »

Hello all,

I have replaced all the lower mounts on my S70, I just have the upper torque mount to do. I reached out to Robert about his press tool, and it looks like they are not available to purchase or rent. Does anyone have a good source for this tool?

A threaded bult and this set for making hole in tiles works just perfect for this purpose !

t's 50 -60 USD so it's maybe not worthwhile buying it solely for this purpose but you might know someone who's got it.

I think the Hutchinson mount is decent and half the price of the tool!

OEM Volvo slightly more

When I looked for a top torque mount for my 1998, it turned out to be completely different from the one on my 1999. Only option I know of for the 1998 is pressing in a new bushing. For the 1999, the Hutchinson is the way to go.

I haven't looked into this closely, but it seems as if the huge bench vise in my basement could be part of the solution for the 1998...

I simply bought a new one from rockauto. Much easier than going through all that pressing rigamarole. They aren't expensive.

I chose Lemforder and used Autozone free loaner tools on my 98.

The ones that just bolt in are for the later models 99+.
For the 98 you can buy this part and replace the whole thing for $120:

Here's the thread in the database if you want to make your own press:
Replace upper engine mount w oem bushing

This is what you would buy to press in:

I'm assuming you're removing the mount from the car first, right?
