Caught this on a facebook group I subscribe to. 2005 Ford Five Hundred. Ford D3 platform may be 'based' on the Volvo P2 platform, but a Volvo P2 the Ford Five Hundred is definitely NOT! Ford deleted the rear subframe to attach the rear suspension arms/tension strut directly to the unibody...then didn't use a high enough grade/corrosion resistant steel to hold up over the long haul. For all intensive purposes that is not repairable:

My sis borrowed one of these (05 or 06 Five Hundred) from a relative for a couple months while I scouted around for an XC90 for her to buy. There was a tempting reasonable offer from that relative: the car was for sale. I'm glad she/we decided to skip on it.

I think these US-based CEO & BODs are pandering too much to daytraders. Quick profits now, if you accidentally destroy the brand (wink wink!) just dump the stock, wine about the situation you put yourself in, then buy it back after the government/taxpayers have bailed out the company. That whole business with GM (whether or not you felt the bailout was warranted) IMO set a very dangerous precedent for other US-based corporations to follow and possibly repeat.

In the news today: Fiat-Chrysler active headrests deploying unexpectedly sending people to the hospital with a concussion. You know, during a rear end collision the passenger's head would have rearward momentum in relation to vehicle seat/chassis resulting in an increase of 'strike force' of the headrest against the back of the head. OMG. What were they thinking. ..or were they unable to comprehend because they were all suffering from concussions?

From what I can see, the headrest in my S60 angles forward 'normally' to accomplish a similar/same level of protection against whiplash without the need for a sudden/instant mechanism to pop the headrest forward during a rear end collision. The forward tilt of the S60's headrest has never bothered me.

The term Headrest is a misnomer. It is a head restraint.

Whiplash occurs when the head and torso accelerates at different rates. This is what bends and harms the neck. A head restraint catches the head and keep the head and torso acceleration even and the two better aligned. Lowering the probability of Whiplash.

Anybody that raised chickens for meat knows about this.
