Open up the cap again and inspect - thats about the right time for blowby to recontaminate the cap and rotor if the engine is plugged up.erikv11 wrote: 24 Feb 2019, 22:16 Are you sure the cam seal is not blown out under the distributor cap, sending in moisture and oil?
Changed title to capture car and symptom

To see the cam seal you may have to do a little more than pull the cap and rotor, also remove the black plate the rotor mounts on. It's a single 10 mm bolt.

Well great news I finally figured it out. The cam seal under the distributor was blown completely out the bore. As in it was loose and flopping around, I have always been tinkering with cars most of my life but with Chevy’s and other GM’s. What attracted me to the Volvo’s was that they practically never rust out. I drove it for about 15 miles and with a car wash. I think I’m out of the woods now. I want to express my gratitude to everyone for the help.

Nice. Up here in NY, even our salt can't kill these things. See you on the Thruway
