My wife came home and said the drivers window wouldn't go up. She had just gone through a parking pass thing. I assumed ice. Nope.
The glass had obviously fallen off the track or support frame in the door. It was tilted towards the front - away from the lock jamb. As I tried to raise it, it jammed or wanted to go back down because of obstruction. I grabbed and pulled steadily upwards and straightened it while hitting the button. Got it shut, but the front corner at the mirror is broken, several cracks. It didn't shatter like tempered glass, so is it laminated?
I got an appointment at Safelite glass, which has done a nice job on several cars. My question is, will they know how to deal with problems inside the door? Is it likely there's something broken in there, or has it slipped off the support? Should I be taking the door panel off first for them?
Thanks -

Some pics. The glass is smooth on the exterior, so I think this is laminated and the cracks are in the inner sheet.
I'm thinking that their quoted price is to do the whole job and replace your window, not to have Harvey Homeowner try to be helpful and disassemble the door. But I am curious if there's a common piece that may have broken or failed in there.

Our P80s and P2 s are laminated all the way around I believe. It's that Volvo thing.

Found some info here....sliding blocks are plastic and fail...

However, many comments about certain years having the regulator flipped and all this work is on the backside of the glass and blind.

My 2004 V70 HAD exact same issue. One of the plastic sliders broke, creating a skewed condition.
When I raised the glass upward, it cracked.
Fortunately the solution is simple.
1- Buy 2 brand-new clips from Volvo dealer (or online), about $5/each
PN 3509416 qty = 2 per side.
Or total of 4 for BOTH front glasses.
I recommend doing the RF side as a prevention!
TRICK: During insertion, insert the metal clip ONLY HALFWAY in, snap the window ball joints into the plastic slider, then lock it by squeezing the channel lock pliers. The FCPEuro insert the metal clip afterward but I like to partially postion the metal clip halfway in...
2- Search local junk yard for the LF glass, it is the same glass for 2001-2006 S60 and V70.
Most junk yards charge about $25 for the glass.
Check Volvo websites to be sure the years I quoted above is correct for the glass.
3- Tricks:
- Watch youtube on how to remove trim panel. Get some extra plastic clips ahead of time.

I did this repair recently (replaced sliding blocks) and installed replacement used window on my driver's door. There's a video on this somewhere, maybe an FCP video. It is dead simple. About as easy as an oil change, although a little more finnicky.
One of the reasons I recently scored an '04 XC70 for $500 was a broken driver's window that the dealer was quoting former owner $900 to repair because they had to "replace the door."
You should definitely attempt this repair yourself if you have even a modicum of mechanical skills.

Good info, guys - thanks.
My only issue there is it's still very cold here, the garage has another project car up on stands, and we have no decent salvage yards anywhere near me. It's $250 with a coupon at Safelite, new glass.
Another vid, similar to FCP's.
cn90, was your 2004 regulator arm like the video, or reversed on the backside of the glass? Mine is an 04 as well.

Crap. That isn't a horrible price but entire doors are $50 at Harrys , and you get a lot more parts to sell!

Yeah. I'll venture my salvage yards have Chevy trucks and Suburbans....
Lots of yards in Spokane, 2 1/2 hrs one way.
I think I'll order those blue blocks if they can get them here by Friday, and have them in the car. They're not going to have any factory parts available, then they'll order them, then it'll sit in the shop.
