I have finally taken pictures of a disassembled 1999+ year PS reservoir. I just hacked it open so you will notice the rough edges at the seam between the upper and lower halves. The pictures have long titles to be self explanatory. I have added some comments to a few of the pictures.
Previous discussion in this thread made the point that a wire coat hanger can be used to grab the return tube and hold it in position and then use a channel lock style pliers to push the brass pipe back into the internal return tube. Of course you must first remove the upper hose to the PS reservoir. I replaced the factory clamp with a stainless steel screw clamp. This fix prevents you from having to buy a new reservoir.
I have not had any problems since I did the repair 3 years ago.

It hard to see but at the right angle of the return tube there is a solid plastic tip that presses against the wall of the reservoir. The only way the tube fall off is the movement of the brass pipe our of position into the hose.
