2002 XC70 192,000
Above 10-15 mph, I get a scraping sound from the rear of the vehicle, possibly one of the wheels.
The scraping sounds like (but isn't) a dragging brake shoe or caliper that won't open. The sound does not stop when I apply the brakes or pull up on the handbrake while driving. I've disassembled the rear brakes twice, verified the hand brake shoes are intact and springs are retracting the pads when the handle is released. The calipers are working properly. There's no unusual wear on the handbrake or disc brake pads.
The scraping sound is only when accelerating, and only when above some minimal speed. It lessens when coasting.
And...There's a hop/bounce in the ride when driving. At first I thought it was a bad axle. Swapped one of the front axles out for what I thought was a good used one I had leftover. The one in the car came apart when I was yanking on it to test the CV joints (guess it was bad). But the hop/bounce is still there.
Any ideas on what to look at?
Do the CV's on the driveline go bad? What does that sound like? Does it come with a hopping? How do you test the driveline/CV's?
What does it sound like if the differential is failing?
Please Advise, Thanks Again!
