With 3 Volvos and a Kia Sportage, i don't have the tools to do some of the work. The Sportage is under warranty for 5 years so I have the car serviced there. I still have the 06 XC70 serviced at the dealer, although I do some smaller jobs on it. We don't do a big mileage as a family so typically the cars are unlikely to get to an oil change based on mileage! Once a year max oil changes. Kia has free oil changes for 5 years also.

Then there are some jobs where I don't have the experience and if it i complex I'll leave it to the pro's as their work is warranted!

Never paid for labor on anything on my Volvo. Unless you consider a yearly state inspection labor.

Otherwise, I really only pay for labor on alignments and tire mounting. I do everything else myself.

Agree only labor is wheel alignment/tires. If I could do that myself I would. Plus a lot of places are a rip off- choose your tire places wisely! Many screw things up who sell other services to get you to come back- had it happen more than once.

Tough to answer with just a "click". Last year I paid for an alignment. First in > 15yrs. Should have done it sooner...much sooner. About 10yrs/70,000mi ago, I paid the indy to do TB, WP, front cam seals, etc. This year I paid ~ $330 to have the blown PS rack replaced: He had a lift, I didn't. Also, the shop warranted the rack. Good thing too because the replacement rack soon began "clunking" within a week!

Last year, I did all the work in my BIG THREAD myself.

Only go to the "stealership" under extreme duress. otherwise I do all my own work, except tires and alignments.
