Temp Limits Roof Operation

Tried to open the hard top today. Got this message "Temp Limits Roof Operation". Say's it's caused by power retractable hardtop mechanism overheating and to wait 5 minutes and try again. After waiting still not working and getting the same message. Any ideas? Is there a reset button anywhere?

No reset button.

There is a temperature sensor in the electric motor. The sensor is connected to the
Convertible Roof Module (CRM). At high temperatures the Convertible Roof Module (CRM) limits
the functionality of the hydraulic pump in order to avoid damage to the system.

If you cannot open the roof when it is cool. Most likely the temperature sensor in the electric motor is defective or you got a wiring problem that is fooling the CRM into thinking the temperature sensor is yelling TOO Hot!.

I would have the car scanned with Volvo Vida to see if there are any CRM error codes.

How cold was it in VA when you tried to open it? The top will close at much lower temps but stops opening if the temp sensor gets to around 32F. I'd have to look up the exact temp. The sensor is inside a foam sound enclosure for the motor in the bottom of the trunk. I would expect it to not change temps very quick so a really cold night might have it say NO well up into a day when it goes up 20 degrees.

The owners manual states the lower limit is 14° F (-10° C).

I drove one for a while and it would not open at much below freezing. The training info is what you listed but they were known to not go down at close to freezing. I don't know if software was tweaked or temp sensors were not spot on accurate. Getting all the seals wet and the water freezing and then opening roof causing damage (warranty expense) to seals with less force than the pressure needed for relief valve to open would be the concern. When the top is stored in the boot there is little or no risk since the three parts have no seal contact stored on the perches provided there.

Could be that the hardware temperature have not recovered from the overnight low. It stand to reason that the temperature of the hardware is what matters not the Ambient temperature.

Tried to open it the next day and it worked fine. Still going to get it scanned.
