I FAILED the GLOVE

TEST.........

WHAT does this MEAN??

I didnt inflat the WHOLE GLOVE but ......

Ugh!! I WENT and had that carbon remover put in my car today

I had in my previous post of what kind it was ..

In any case, it's most likely a clogged PCV system that's gonna need replacing. Gonna shoot you some links if interested; also, I think you should consider this DIY project in order to avoid making a friend with your mechanic. And next time, do oil changes in 5K intervals (give or take).

If I can offer the cheapskate’s side of the PCV issue, on the turbo engine you can pretty much get away with taking it apart and flushing every thing out. Invariably you will need to purchase the little nipple fitting that attaches to the underside of the intake manifold - around $30. You’ll also need the manifold and throttle body gaskets. I would also replace the hose that runs from the breather box up to the top of the engine. If it’s the original hose and hasn’t split open yet it soon will. Allow yourself a good long day to accomplish if it’s the first time.

Clogged PCV is bad business, that was most likely culprit in the failure of the original engine on '08 S60 I bought last year. All that positive crankcase pressure is robbing the bearings of needed lubrication, and leads to oil sludge. I ended up swapping the engine, but here is the picture of the lower passage as I tried to unclog it. That orifice was plugged shut, may as well have been a cork made of carbon dust. When I realized how badly it was plugged, I put a paper towel under the hole to show the amount of removed material, although some still fell to the side or into the oil pan.

I opted to skip replacing this nipple, and just cleaned the old one really good instead. Used brake cleaner, compressed air, brushes, picks, and wires to get it scrubbed. The skinny plastic hose I replaced with a piece of silicon vacuum tubing (I keep a few feet on hand, because BMW life). I'll inspect in a year to see how it handles the job.

I am close to finishing a rebuild on a motor that I think also likely failed due to a clogged PCV system. The PO had replaced all the PCV components but I don't think they understood the need to clean out the passage that runs from the block to the oil pan. I received the motor in pieces, but the PO had it hot-tanked at a machine shop, and I still had to work on the passage in the oil pan, it was still blocked. I suspect that clog led to blowing out the rear main seal, a big quick loss of oil and a spun bearing.
I have heard that leaving the dip stick pulled out some to relieve the pressure is a temporary safe guard if the car MUST be driven for a period of time.
