5 cylinder or 4 cylinder XC60 differences and reliability?

Hi This is my first post here!

I am looking for a 2014 XC60, typically with the new 4 cylinder, 8 gear transmission Geartronic drive-e engines etc. etc. I made this conclusion after tons of study on reliability studies compared to older engines and all of that.

I recently came across a 2013 XC60 which has the Geartronic transmission but only has 6 gears and the older 5 cylinder engine. It's this one: https://www.autotrader.co.za/cars-for-s ... c60/921200

Now, I would have stuck my guns, except the one above actually has most of the newer 2014 facelift components. And it is a great deal for the price taking into account the mileage, especially compared to others.

My question: how does the 5 cylinder engine compare to the 4 cylinder engine and gear setup when it comes to mechanical reliability? I'm not too worried about performance, I've read most of that content on the forum. Since I am buying over or at 5 years used, I really need to buy reliably.

It is unlikely that you will get an answer to your question in this forum as the diesel XC60s were not sold in the USA or Canada. Sorry.

Both engines are from the same modular design. The engineering and manufacturing is the same, reliability the same.

No. The newer four cylinders have nothing in common with the old fives. The new VEA engines are designed from the ground up to be fours and threes.

The five probably has an edge when it comes to reliability. The six speed isn't quite as nice as the eight speed though.
