I'm a bit confused, someone please set me straight. Here's the situation - I need to pull a uhaul trailer and then will be towing my car behind a uhaul truck. So I need to wire the car up properly.
The car has this connector near the spare, which I assume is about trailer wiring:
Seems like I have two options:
1. Purchase this 114827 - Genuine Volvo - Towing Hitch Taillight Wiring Converter - 8698079 from IPD https://www.ipdusa.com/products/6802/11 ... X4QAvD_BwE
OR
2. Buy a Curt taillight converter https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Veh ... 79KIT.html
and install as this guy describes:
I've read a few things about the necessity of protecting the car's electrical system. Will option 1 do this? Or will only option 2 do this or do it better than option 1?
Thank you so much for your help - -

Those little blue cut and splice electrical connectors should be internationally banned.
Cry once and spend the money for the plug and play Volvo unit and save all that time not fussing with no trailer lights

Anyway - for the second time - you need these:

Do NOT even think about trying to wire the car lights to the U-Haul truck.

Attaching trailer lights to the Volvo via the harness, fine.
Trying to attach the car lights to the Towing vehicle , no.
