Hey Abscate, 5-speed RPM question - MPG talk

Post by matthew1 »

What's your engine RPM in 5th at 80 MPH? My Golf wagon 6-speed is at 2.5k in 6th.

(Why 80 MPH? That's around average interstate [non-metro] speed from what I observe, out here in the West anyway.)

I dont think I’ve ever hit 80, even in NJ

I want to say 2500 at 70, so about 2850 at 80?

Mpg would suck at 80!

Abscate you never fail to make me at least giggle a bit! Do you really never hit 80mph because of gas mileage :?:

My daughter just left for South Florida from a two day visit and she had a laundry list of complaints. So I drove her C70 several times up to 90 mph today  petal on the floor of course! I really put it through its paces on the way to my dealer for a service. I then realized she thought it should drive like a S80 T6     she really wants my car I'm afraid...

It's the T6 has so much quieter turbo and exhaust system and a long 6cylinder is naturally balanced from what I understand for smooth operation. I tried to explain it to her that her T5 is driving perfectly for what it is. She had me convinced it had a exhaust leak maby, but my mechanic said it is perfect. I vaguely recall the XC70 had a bit of a exhaust note? Vs. The silent S80 T6 exhaust.

Anyway I thought of you today and how your daughters have been taught about cars. So I took time and went over the cars features. She thought the headlights off position was the low beams and the on position was high beam  also did not know how to defrost/fog windshield and rear window :o   !!! Much less using front and rear fog lights  . I pointed out that the owners books explain everything! Because she asked what do all these buttons do?!

I'm afraid I sheltered her from her father too much :!: Just had give you a well done :!: with your girls! June

I have been dealing with a wrecked tire, and suspension issues found after my daughter drove into a car sized (not really) pothole. But the roads are in a terrible state around here. June, thanks for the reminder that I need to give her a test on the controls.

I drive at 65-70, I might reach 75 if the flow in the right lane reaches that.

My car life has been a lot better since I invoked the 2 hour, 10 minute walking break rule.

Every time I think of selling this car that seat stops me. I did 30 hours of driving in last week and never once even felt like I was in a car. Abby’s new S70 might even get new foam and leather skins for the front , especially if I can close this deal of an order of 100,000 ladders from Mexico.

30 hours in a week is no problem but 18 hours in a day actually crossed the limited even for the Volvo seats. That I had been mountain biking in the Alps for a week before getting in the car probably didn't help. But regardless.

The 2.5T AT hits 160-ish kph at 3000 rpm. An equivalent manual would rev higher.

I would think ladders "from" Mexico would be at a premium right now.
