Every S70/V70 I have ever purchased that was red, was single stage paint. It always fades in a week or two and requires more wax. Did they make a red w/ clearcoat? If so, what is the paint code?

Its interesting the red is single stage. I I prefer it, as buffing will restore it and nothing will restore the clear coat. I wonder is the yellow, white and black a single stage? Has anyone repaired a clear coat with out ruining the base coat? Or is it a remove and complete re-paint only?

if you had a clear coated one you'd wish for a single coat color. the clear code comes off and is impossible to fix unless you repaint the whole car. 90ies red tones were always super fady.
if your body is rustfree and straight you can always wrap with your color of choice.

You can repair clear coat, but it's usually not worth the effort. It's a lot of super fine grit sanding, edge refining and then masking, spraying, sanding repeat, polish, and then hope for the best. All the time hoping you don't cut into the color underneath. I only tried it once, on the little rectangular section just above the rear hatch, "under" the wing. It went okay-ish, for a first time. Not something I'm keen on doing on the regular, however.

Arguably better for it to be single stage. If you clear it the red will still fade but you won't actually be able to do anything to restore the colour.

It sounds like you need to actually compound the oxidation off, then polish it, then add a sealant or wax on top. From what you've written and the short duration mentioned it seems to me as if when it fades you are just adding more wax, as opposed to removing the oxidation that causes the faded look.

Coral red has a clear coat, classic/signal red is single stage. They are not similar shades of red though, so I wouldn’t recommend repainting with the other color!

There is also a darker red similar to Venetian Red (if it isn’t Venetian Red, I believe that was an R-specific color) that I’ve seen on ‘99-2000 models.

445 Venetian Red pearl is listed as used on the V70 and S60 but not the S70.

Interesting, it must be a different color on the S70 that I've seen. It's very similar.

No way to be 100% sure. Anything is possible with deep pockets and Custom Ordering.

If you ever come across the color again, run down the owner and get the paint code off the product ID plate. Open the doors, hood and trunk to make sure it is original paint.
