2000 Volvo S40, MAF code, won't idle and seems to have less power

Post by godschild72617 »

I have a 2000 Volvo S40, I will make a long story short. I replaced the MAF and the Map sensor. The car is stilling giving me a PS0102 Code. Also, now it wont idle and seems to have less power. I checked for frayed wires and visible air leaks. I don't want to keep throwing parts at it. I love it and know it still has some life in it. Can anyone help or possibly tell me what gives the MAF it's power. I am also have trouble getting my hands on a wiring diagram with reference and is not in Dutch. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

What brand mass airflow sensor did you put in?

Volvos are very sensitive to MAF brand. I've read about non-OEM MAFs working, but it's the exception.

I replaced the Mass Airflow sensor with a brand new OEM one. Check engine light went off and car will drive, but the minute I take my foot off the throttle it dies. Before I dish out $200 for a new Idle Air Control Valve, can anyone tell me if there is a way to test this first? Thanks for your help.

I had a simillar problem with my 2000 S40. I replaced the MAF with an off brand that cost $20.The fault code cleared. But on my 2nd or 3rd trip i began experiencing problems and a MAF code came back not sure of the code number but it was MAF under reporting air flow. When parked with the engine at idle the motor would rev up to roughly 3000 RPM and drop like it was hitting the rev limiter. Foud the line from the manifold to the brake booster hand unseated at the manifold. Fixed that code and idle problem gone. Easiest way i have found to test MAF was using a handheld OBDII reader capable of live data stream wand ensuring voltage increases with application of throttle with engine running . The same can be done with a multimeter and back probing the MAF sensor cable.
