New used Volvo owner (again)

Most folks that know me find it odd that someone like me (neck a little red) keeps buying these Volvos. My first was a 93 850 GLT. I just wanted a nice run around car to give my pick up a rest, but I didn't want just another camry/accord/oldsmobuick like every other car on the road. I found a good deal on that one owner 850 that just turned 100K.

I loved it so much that about 6 months later I picked up a 99 S70 AWD lease return and brought the 850 out to Colorado where my fiance was (the car treated me much better than the girl). I traded the S70 in on a new truck in 03 and repossesed the 93 and put a few more miles on her. At 146k, I only needed a fuel pump, so it was a good run with that one.

A few other vehicles since then and now. A few months ago I decide to come back to a used Volvo again for a daily driver. This time I wanted a wagon for their SUV like usability. I think they must be a lot more expensive out here in the Seattle area because the prices are a lot higher than what a lot of you guys seem to report. Also, the wagons seem to be hammered on a lot more than the sedans. Another thing around here is almost all of the wagons were AWD and I knew I didn't want that. Very few people can drive in the snow around here no matter how many wheels are being driven anyway.

I ended up finding a 98 V70 GLT that was about as clean as a 78k car could be. The guy that traded it in was kind enough to leave almost everything that had been done in the glove box, along with the manuals and original window sticker. He also wasn't upset that I went ahead ad called him for more info.

Well, I had a question, but after writing a story, I forgot it now. I'll think of it and thanks to this site, I've already had many answered. It was great to find this site while I was looking.

A 98 V70 GLT? That doesn't make sense to me at least... I thought the GLT badging was only for the 850 series...

I had to go check and it says GLT just under the V70. I know it is an early 98. I don't know the build date off hand, but it sold new in November of 97.

Mine is the LP turbo. I looked at an almost identical red 97 that was non turbo and I don't think it had any badge there. That one seemed to have had a rougher life and there was a few too many things that didn't work on it. So far the only things that I can find wrong is the back light on the front passenger window button is out and I have a small oil leak that seems to be coming from around the turbo.

Yes, '98 GLT is a low pressure turbo. The small oil leak around the turbo is probably the oil return line. Both fcpgroton.com and ipdusa.com sell the gasket and o-ring for this fairly easy repair.

To qualify, from 1997 and newer, the GLT is a LPT turbo, In 1996 the GLT was a NON turbo
