Hello all,
As the title says, I'm having trouble locating a catalytic converter for a 1998 V70 GLT. I recently got the car on the road (was a project that had been sitting in someone's driveway for a few years).
The exhaust was nice and quiet until last Thursday when it suddenly got a little louder. On Friday, the pipe exiting the catalytic converter broke off. The car is LOUD now. I'm thinking my best bet is to replace it, but I'm having trouble locating the correct part.
Is it the same catalytic converter as the non-turbo cars? Or is it specific to the GLT turbo. That's what I'm having trouble confirming, plus a source for the part. More than fine with aftermarket, but I'd like one that fits like the original, not one I'd need to clamp/weld in.
Also, I'm newer to turbocharged cars. Could running the car for ten miles at highway speed with the exhaust broken off after the cat have hurt the turbocharger?

See if they can weld it back.
Should not have caused issues with the turbo.

Thanks for the feedback. There is no "they". I've done all my own repairs for the past ten years. (This is one of four P80 Volvos we have right now - I've been working on them for the past five years, so I'm not a novice.) I'll try to weld if I have to, but for now, I'm approaching this as if it won't be possible to weld it. Ideally, I'm looking for a bolt-in part to fix this.

Sorry about that. Many folks are unable to weld, I incorrectly assumed you might have fallen into that category.

Put your VIN into any of the Volvo Web stores ( dealer parts portals) and the part number will come up, as well as other fitments. Local muffler shop can quote an aftermarket one too. In NY, junkyards can’t formally sell them, although I’ve pulled this off a few times.
I usually use the Volvo parts Lisle portal or the Atlanta one for reference

I like the look of that stainless Magnaflow. The carparts.com website says it should fit, but Magnaflow's own website was less conclusive. I emailed them - let's see if they write back. Of course if I go that route, I may as well also try to locate a stainless muffler and be done with it once and for all850 LPT wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 13:21 You might be successful here:
