There seems to be an issue with the electronic controls of my driver seat, where it will move forward/back, up/down...but the seat back will not move forward/back. I initially heard like a grrr noise, but when I got home, I noticed that the motor seems to be working fine. Does anyone have any experience with this. Not sure what is involved and why the motor is working, but nothing is happening. Appreciate any help!

Thank you.

The mechanical drive cable plastic jackets expands with age and pulls the metal cable out of the motor or the gear boxes.

You can replace the cable or shorten the plastic jacket.

New cables are ~$60.00 each .

To shorten the plastic jacket:
1. Measure the play in the metal cable.
2. Pull the metal end cap off the plastic jacket .
3. Shorten the plastic jacket by the amount of measured play.
4. Reinstall the metal end cap.

I looked at a video, and it looks like to do the repair, it takes a toll on the upholstery, where you have to zip tie it back? Is there a way around all of this to cause minimal damage? The seats are in perfect condition.

Also, how long to do the repair? Looks like both seats don’t go back.

Thank you!!

It is a little time consuming but not hard. I use hog rings and hog ring pliers to do the repairs. Not had any real issues with it.

all the upholstery and convertible top shops are gone with the dodo. I would hate to learn on perfect seats.

It’s not rocket surgery. See my thread on reskinning a P80 seat, 4 hours to remove and replace 4 parts , so an hour to do one, roughly.
