Radio Still Says "Off" After Three Hour Wait

Post by HerrGruyere »

Hi again,

My radio still says OFF even after waiting three hours with the key in position 1. I’ve tried removing the radio and disconnecting it for a second. Still says off. All the fuses seem to be okay.

Should I try disconnecting the battery and the radio? Does the key have to be in position 2 (running)?

Just checking. Thanks!

Power the radio off and leave it off until tomorrow. That always worked for me.

Are you sure you have the original radio? The correct code for the installed radio?
Slide the radio out and see if the code is penciled on top.

Code on the radio is the same one given to me by Volvo customer service.

I guess I can keep the radio off for a while. Then maybe this afternoon try the key on thing again.

Did they look up the code by VIN number or radio serial number? Did they confirm it works?

I heard it was only two hours of driving or leaving the key on. Also I didn’t put the wrong code in. The previous owner did. I’m just trying to get it back to code mode so I can put the right one in.

I used my VIN. But I also took the radio out to confirm the code given to me (they’re the same).

your right, 2 hours. . the key position 1 (if not driving) is sort of two and a half clicks where the warning light arn't on but the fan and radio have power. The radio should say OFF or something like that. when it says CODE you can put in your 4 numbers providing all you buttons work that correspond to your code.

I would do the running position for overnight, but I don’t want the daytime lights to drain the battery.

My commute to work is an hour each way. Does the time have to be consecutive? Does the radio have to say OFF instead of actually being turned off?

Maybe this weekend I’ll put it in the garage and let it sit overnight with the key in position one.

It needs to be 2 hours straight with no power interruptions. You may need to pull the globes (or the corresponding fuse) in the daytime lights.

That works if it is the original radio. The codes are stored in the radio. If you move a radio from one car to another the code moves with the radio.

Obtain original Volvo radio code online, "Official method" for dealing with OFF code. There is also a contact form for getting the radio code by radio serial number .

As I said before. Turning the radio off for a day has worked for me.

For the Daylight Running Lights. Look at the headlight switch in the lower right hand corner. That is not a screw, it is the switch for the Daylight Running Lights . Take a Jewelers screwdriver and turn the switch to turn Daylight Running Lights on or off.
