Radiator cooling fan issues
I have read that the radiator fan on the S80 is dependent on the A/C and not temperature. Is this true? I have a 2004 S80 T5 that I bought a little over a year ago. The fan has run from the time that I started it until the 3-5 minute period after shut-off. I didn't have a problem with it until 3 days ago when I went to start it up (heard a weird noise) and let it run. Came to find out that the noise was the A?C compressor (which hasn't worked since I bought the car) decided that it wanted to try and run now. But, after I shut it down and restarted it, the fan no longer came on. I went and bought another fan and it didn't come on. Re-installed the old fan and it worked once. Hasn't been on since. That was yesterday. Now, the compressor isn't trying anymore and the fan isn't coming on. It's between 30-48 degrees in Alabama right now and I am concerned about overheating BEFORE it gets hot. Drove it 5 miles, 10 miles, and 20 miles with nothing changing and no overheating. What should I do?

Theoneforeva, how was your issue resolved? My S60 2.5T AWD is doing the same thing. Thanks!

Do you know if the CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor) is an original Volvo item or an aftermarket one? Its screwed in the thermostat housing.

I found out that the A/C compressor needed to be replaced. Once it was replaced and charged, fan operation returned to normal.Brentscrazyptwo wrote: ↑23 Mar 2019, 08:40 Theoneforeva, how was your issue resolved? My S60 2.5T AWD is doing the same thing. Thanks!

I bought the entire housing aftermarket. I then removed the new one from the new housing and replaced the old one with it. Still have a new housing but, i replaced the thermostat too. Easier for me than removing it all.

Also replaced the gasket which came with the new housing then I believe? I mean the gasket between the housing, not the gasket between the housing and the engine.
