A bad thing happened to me Saturday

Post by wooshuck »

Hello to everyone,

I was having the upholstery in my all-black 1996 Volvo 850 MT reupholstered a month ago when I got a call from the upholsterer's son-in-law that Don the upholsterer had died. After the funeral, I went to pick up the seats, only to discovered that the seats and frames had been taken completely apart!!!

I don't even have whole frames, just a pile of pieces. The upholstery work was barely started.

And now I have no seats.

If you are in the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana areas and you have a set of seats, I'd like to buy them, no matter what condition. I can at least install them and cover them with wraparound Ebay seat slip covers so that I can use this car until I find another upholsterer.

Anybody have any leads, let me know.

Thanks!

I might even be able to get it back to Grand Rapids this month?

There is a 1994 850 at listed at Ryan's Pick-a-Part in Detroit.
It it listed as been there for three years but I am incline to think that is a typo.

I also see one listed on LKQ Grand Rapids site page, a '97 850 in the yard with what looks in the pic to be black seats. If that's a long drive for you you might try to call, explain you situation and ask them nicely to send someone out to the yard to confirm the seat upholstery color. If their picture was centered a little more rightward you'd be able to tell for sure.

Also showing on row52 is a '95 at yard "U Pull and Save" in Mason, Michigan near Lansing, there's no pictures or color description for that one. Again try calling.

One last site to check.. car-part.com (regular 'full service' salvage yards).. sorting for front seat 1995 850...desc as black or grey leather..
Willie Mote auto parts in Burnetsville IN has two LH side seats
Southwest Auto in Lockport IL has both sides

It might be a lot quicker to reassemble if I can send you frame pictures with no skin or foam?

There are not that many pieces ....??

I have a grey 1995 850 wagon parts car. I haven't stolen the seats out of it yet.

Edit: I'm in Greencastle, IN

Guys,
Thanks for the info.

I have seen the note about the seats at Ryan's pick-a-part and am going Saturday to check the seats out.

In the meantime, if anyone has good parts info, I'd consider assembling the pieces, but I don't want to wait too long before I drive the car.

Thanks again!

If all else fails, I might be checking out Greencastle IN!

First, Thanks to everyone who helped!

I went with a guy to the Parts Galore yard and found an entire interior which I bought for less than $100. I need to work on the leather a bit and it has one tear on a seam., that tear is fixable.

The leather is a dark gray, anyone have any ideas about how to soften the leather and make the cracks less obvious?
