To be fair it's not the Prius' fault that the average US car is closer to a tank cast from a solid block of pig iron. Over here it's a small midsize. Golf class cars are pretty much the norm.

This would be a good day for me to drive to Chicago.. 20-30 mph tailwind blowing due east->west if I reset that at the beginning of the drive it'd avg low-mid 40s (from previous experience). If I drove east toward Ohio 32 avg might be 'at best', probably more like 28-30.

Fuelly today says for my '07 XC70 (200k kms, 160k tracked)

10.9 L/100km (that's 21.6 US or 25.9 Imperial mpg)

as the all-time average.

My work commute is daily 30km each way, half city half highway.

Replacing the faulty ETM on my 2007 XC70 2.5T AWD last December increased highway from 21mpg to 27mpg while driving at 70mph.

Now, on 93 octane at 27 avg. mpg with 30/70 mix city/highway. Not complaining.

Sitting behind the commuter busses and tractor trailers boosts that above what it would normally be. 27 is the "boosted" figure, but that's also probably at 70-75 mph.

Just did 414 miles mostly highway from Maine to N.J. Average mpg readout 28.1. Car was lightly loaded, me and one bag. 93 octane, new Michelin Premier LTX tires inflated to 35 psi. Fresh 4 wheel alignment. Recently went to Castrol 0W40 Belgian made. Drafting trucks for mileage bonus.

And I did not run the A/C for any portion of the trip.

Was getting as high as 27.3 on 93 octane before all those changes. Unfortunately, can't isolate single variables.
