Biggest issue with the P80 AWD cars is that many of the 'squishy' bits for the rear end have gone obsolete. Fuel lines, suspension bushes, emissions parts and more. Even at the front end the lower torque rod is obsolete as a part. IPD sell some bushes that may help around that part but at a premium price.

I can get the whole rear end and sub frame out of another almost rust free car for 250.00. And its what I want to do...so can it be done? With switching rear sub frame??? If so what years will work? Long story short me and my 13 yr. Old are in the long run are going rebuild the car.....all the way to the tranny soilinoids ect. It will be his first car.....for now i drive it a little for side jobs etc. So if at all posible could you please let me know if I can and what years to the FWD rear sub can come out of?

If the donor and receiver are both Factory V70 and V70 Cross Country designed with AWD system from years 1998, 1999, and 2000, then it is. Are you able to share VIN# of both cars?

You have to swap fuel tank also. The fasteners are in the body so that is not an issue. The wiring for FWD tank is the same after you unplug the AWD tank's joining connector for the two sending units it uses vs single on the FWD tank. The filler neck for FWD will be needed. You need FWD tank of the same year and Turbo so that you have the tank pressure sensor and plumbing that is compatible. You will need the rear suspension complete and the brake lines from 99 or 2000 to get the correct pieces so the ABS is happy. 98 and down was single hydraulic circuit and analog wheel sensors, 99 and later is dual hyd circuits and the ABS sensors are digital. Oh, the exhaust is different too. I could mention that the differential in the AWD trans is weaker as they figured with AWD the left & right wheel spin is handled by torque distribution to the rear drive wheels but I won't.

Old thread I stumbled onto…

This swap was well documented by bdub so it’s possible with basic tools. It’s a big, 8/10 project with a lot of small details to be fussed with.

This is a fantastic and well-documented swap. Did it myself on my ‘98 AWD, and the car is so much better for it. It’s a straightforward and relatively simple swap. Took me a couple days. Getting a parts car of the same year is the way to go.

Did it twice a couple of years ago. It was a real pain with a little rust on a '99 V70R. Then I had to just replace the rear end on my car and it was a nightmare. I also made the mistake of getting a C70 rear end for the '99 and had issues with wheel rub. Did finally roll the fenders.
