Speaker wiring 2000 XC

Post by FlyingVolvo »

Hello,

I've perused a bit but couldn't quite find what I was looking for (some dead links too). A couple years ago, both my passenger front dash and door speakers went out. I replaced the head unit (HU) and all the speakers but found those two stayed dead.

How are those two wired together? My HU only has wires for R/L front, R/L rear. The driver's side works fine, so I'm guessing wiring is dead somewhere. I was going to just run new wiring myself, but need to know what order to run the lines in. Do I run a line from HU to dash speaker to door, then back to HU?

Any clarification would help, thanks.

The dash and front door speakers are wired in parallel and are driven directly off of the head unit. If you have an amp there is a second connector that jumps from the head unit to the amplifier and then the speakers for the rears plug into the amp.

The wiring harnesses where they go into the door after the multi-connector on the 'A' pillar are bad for cracking with age near the connector where they flex most.

As I know you are pretty handy with the electronics, disconnect the door harness. Then continuity check the wires from the speaker in the door to the harness connector and make sure they are not broken. I can't recall where I got a copy of the pin-outs on the connector to know which pins are for the speaker cables. Maybe a wiring diagram might break it down.
