That’s mikes fine work on the transmission stuff

Let’s see...capacity of AT approximately 8 Imperial liters

First gallon drain and fill makes oil 50% new
Next one, 75% new
Next one 87%new
Next one 93% new

So four non Imperial gallon drain and gills will take you to the 90% mark.

I have three slushbox cars in the fleet now , and my strategy is to never let the AT get under 75% new oil , new being defined as under 20,000 miles. That’s usually a drain and fill every two years based on their usage.

The BMW E83 is the worst as it has to be filled by IV bag from up top, no fill port accessible from engine. It is also the one that a new transmission need will kill that car so I watch that one closely

Thank you for Posting this,,,It echoes a lot of what I learned from the tranny shop when I was dealing with the infamous AW55-50/51SN.
Lack of fluid change is the number reason why the transmission solenoids begin sticking, But these fluid changes need to be from the beginning of the transmissions life NOT when it starts acting up.
Once your tranny starts hard shifting i suppose changing fluid would prevent it from getting worse at least but i have serious doubts it will completely eliminate them... Never say Never i guess ;-)
It's the fine clutch material is building up on the inside of solenoid valve plunger over time and can't move freely when the TCM instructs it to.This leads to pressure building up behind the valve and when enough pressure builds the valve opens and the operators feels it as a "hard" up shift or downshift or even half shift "flair"
When I had my solenoids cleaned and calibrated the Tech modified the back covers by drilling holes in them. He said the holes aid in the valves ability to self clean allowing crude to escape out the holes.
All this information i gained is from talking to an experienced re builder who knows these Aisin Warner boxes like the back of his hand.
Stay Curious my friends
Cheers

I have yet to meet a tranny that drives a Volvo, yet every Volvo is driven by a tranny.

Gender identity? Where did you get this from this thread?

I think the OP makes a lot of sense. Though some have disagreements with this or that. As far as the flush machines go, my S80 with the 4T65 had no negative effect. Even though I left the original fluid in it 13 years and 120K miles. When I first came on here in 2016 and started reading threads. I felt really stupid for believing that Volvo had used a "Forever" indestructible fluid. In my car's case the original fluid was still clean, just slightly faded color, no burnt smell.

I had the original transmission flushed at the dealer several times over a couple of years without any problems. 2017 and 2018. My transmission;
1. Had clean fluid to begin with.
2. Had no symptoms of trouble.
3. No leaks ever.
So I have no fear of having the transmission flushed. June

Gender identity? Where did you get this from this thread?
We strongly advise about exploring 'abscates humor' - it can lead you to a very strange place requiring lots of counseling to recover..

Thank you

Tranny is a 1980s abbreviation of transvestite. That is now Mr Brian could use the word as he did.

'Abscate's humor' is one of the best assets MVS has! It was a lack of American slang knowledge caused that joke to go right over my head!
