Highly recommend Glowshift. They look great and if you hook it up right will dim with the headlight switch.

That price is on the high side but a 98 R ECU is hard to find. There was one on Craigslist that was re-posted to this site about a week ago and the seller wanted $120.

If you grab a stock T5 or R ECU like that, it might help to know the VIN the ECU came from. In case the presence/absence of an air pump on your car doesn't match the presence/absence of an air pump in the tune/ECU. There are however , workarounds for emissions-mismatched ECUs:
(1) If your car doesn't have SAS but the ECU does then you can do the "SAS delete" diode installation to fool the ECU, ad delete most of the hardware. Otherwise you are stuck with a nuisance CEL.
(2) If your car does have SAS but the ECU doesn't then you can just delete the hardware and plug the holes.

This site has been foolproof for identifying emissions and engine management by VIN: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... n1998.html (change the years in the URL for other P80 VIN decoders). It indicates that all 98 R models (vin 52) shipped with an air pump. If your car doesn't have SAS then you'll need to do the diode trick with an R ECU.

The clone file is already out there, freely and widely available, that is not limiting.

I'm lost the last few posts.. who is Yagger? What's a clone file? Is this just sending in a ECU to have it flashed by someone and reprogrammed as an v70R ecu?
