I have owned my 05 s60 since new, it has been well maintained and now it has 130,000 miles. A local shop replaced the clutch last fall and since then there have been noises. It is now back for the third time and they sent the transmission to a trusted local transmission re-builder and he says a bearing has spun in the housing, ruining the housing. Anyone had that experience?
Any suggestions on where to find a serviceable housing?
thanks

I don't think you can get parts for an M56 but check the webs for that.
It will be cheaper to do a trans swap, of course.

My feeling is that shop didn't work the right way when replacing the clutch. Sad because manual transmissions are rare here in the US.
Now that's quite sure that shop wasn't good at this, I wonder if they are really honest about your transmission being bad. I've learned how often times garages tell lies. Maybe the problem is only with wrong clutch installation and now they want to make you swap the transmission. Better bring yourself the car to a recommended shop - ask here on forum for your area or use local.google.com and check the reviews.

That possibility has crossed my mind although I have seen the inside of the transmission and that one bearing did bind up and ruin the housing. Every thing else looks fine. Now I just hope to get it fixed without buying a transmission from Volvo. My brother-in law has had 3 or 4 standard shift Volvos and never had any transmission work done. His current 03 is approaching 300,000 miles.

Devils advocate here.......
Did it make strange noises immediately after the clutch job?
Is there any chance the people that replaced the clutch forgot to to put oil in the tranny?

Spun transmission bearing is very unusual, you are correct about that. Devil's advocate is asking some good questions.
