I usually walk away when somebody starts quoting KBB on a used car. KBB was originally developed as a price guide for restored cars. That is what the KBB price is always higher. Shady used car dealers started quoting KBB restored car prices. KBB was more then willing to play along with the scam by "developing" the KBB used car guide.
Edmonds Car Appraiser is a better guide for used cars.

Edmunds is usually pretty spot on. Research Craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, Facebook, etc. for pricing on similar cars. Around here, you could probably ask $2500 or so if it's mechanically sound and visually appealing.

I'll tell you that used car values are dropping with the severely improved economy. 4 years ago you couldn't find a running car for under $3k. These days I can find p80's and p2's for under $1k locally. The key is to find the right buyer really. A 20 year old car is worth what that person thinks it's worth. I saw a 95 850 turbo here in St. Louis listed for $3500. But personally I'd never pay more than $1k for that car. Side note the seller was claiming that the engine alone was worth $2500... Of course I remember about 6 months ago a stock t5r wagon sold for 12k here on MVS. Personally if I'm looking at cars this old it's because I'm broke. If I had 6-7k to spend on a car I'm looking at 10 year old Volvo's. Just my $.02
Now that all being said I think that car you just picked up could be a fun run around and beat the crap out of it car. Hahahahaha

Nada will give you better sales pricing than KBB.
It’s a $1500 Car if good cosmetically, meaning wear, but no holes, rips, and tears.

Was that the red wagon? That person was nuts.. it was a faded 850 that had a questionable history. $1,500 car. And who's selling 5 cylinders for $2,500? I could get turbo white blocks for $300 all day!callahanoffroad wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 11:38 I'll tell you that used car values are dropping with the severely improved economy. 4 years ago you couldn't find a running car for under $3k. Tell me about it though... I paid $100 for my S90 and my 850 was free. All it cost me was the dolly rental. I paid $300 each for my V70s. The V70R has cost me more than 10 times that now, but at least it was cheap to begin with! Hahaha
I never pay asking, so you he can ask what seems right based on others' prices. You can always negotiate!

Well, someone already offered me $2k today and he said "all you have to do is install new shocks and struts and patch the exhaust," so I guess it's worth $2k to somebody.
Someone else offered me an $800 manual swap for my 95 850 Turbo. Then they offered me $1k to buy it (double what I paid).

Checked her out again today. Couldn't get all the gunk off the engine serial plate, but first characters where B525, so I'm just going to assume it is a B5254T. Turbo looks way too big to be stock turbo. Found a puddle under the spare tire, so I guess the trunk leaks. Struts are totally blown, I've never seen struts this bad, and according to the mileage penned on the strut cap they only have 75k miles on them. Played around with the steering. There are definitely spots where it feels tight. Turned it lock to lock a bunch of times and it felt like it was loosening up. Hopefully some grease will fix it. No groaning or moaning from the PS pump. No drips on the pavement. Oil is full and needs changed. Trans fluid is full and looks and smells brand new. PS fluid is clean and red. Brake fluid looks clean with a blue/purple tint.
Still waiting on the title before I can get to work...

If it is not a B5254T4 it did not come out of a R.WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 14:50 Checked her out again today. Couldn't get all the gunk off the engine serial plate, but first characters where B525, so I'm just going to assume it is a B5254T. Turbo looks way too big to be stock turbo.
B5254T4
Applications:
2004–2007 Volvo S60 badged as S60 R AWD
2004–2007 Volvo V70 II badged as V70 R AWD.
Borg Warner/KKK K24 turbo.
The K24 is a big turbo.
Note the AWD and the seller's "reason" for disconnecting the rear drive.

Just did some digging on the ECU, and I think I've confirmed it is from a 1999 70 series LPT. Doesn't mean it's not tuned for a big turbo, but I'm pretty sure there's no R engine in here.
