1992 240 GL Seafoam treatment

Someone mentioned a "seafoam treatment" for my aging 240. Is this something real or was it meant to be a joke?

Ive done it,but there is something better And cost less Berrymans Chemtool,about 3 bucks a can.

What the heck is this stuff doing inside of the engine? I never heard of anything that could be put in the gas and in the oil. Well, there are claims for some products, but I'm talking about things that really accomplish something.

If it goes in the tank, it probably won't do much but take money out of your pocket. Using Seafoam sucked in slowly into the intake manifold will remove carbon deposits on your valves and cylinders. I would do this if you are having problems with unwanted engine knock/ping.

You put one can the tank to clean deposits from the fuel injectors. You put about 1/3 to 1/2 can in the intake manifold to clean the deposits from the upstream side of the intake valves. These deposits can cut your power by more than half if allowed to grow big enough.

Just did the Seafoam TB treatment yesterday (about 1/3 can). After the requisite smoke show (the car smokes for about 5 minutes while the crap that has built up is burned away) the 240 had a pronounced bit of kick. Rest of the can to go in the crankcase prior to the next oil change.

I've had very good fortune with seafoam...my 87 740 was idling very rough and I slowly added a can to the crankcase and it was like night and day. I then changed the oil a very short time later.

I also use Lucas gas treatment and injector cleaner every couple of tanks to keep the injectors clean.

It's what's available at the gas station or town when I need it

If you can afford a few days of down time for your car, might I suggest Cruzin Performance to professionally clean and test your injectors? It's about $15 each and much better than you can ever hope to accomplish with the cleaner in a bottle.

I know of a head mechanic for a bus fleet who says that he used to send the vehicles 30 miles away to have the injectors replaced after they were running rough. He then used a couple bottles of Lucas and WhaLa, running smooth again.

Auto Zone guarantees all liquid products that they will refund your money if it doesn't work to the customers satisfaction.
