One of the best innovations a company could incorporate is the 2 second gap warning system to let the car behind you know that for the given speed they are travelling (and the speed that you are travelling) that they are dangerously close and could collide with you in case of an emergency stop.
It could be implemented at speeds above 30mph. Each time I get into my car I have looneys driving behind way too close behind including heavy trucks and heavier laden vehicles such as work utilities.
This innovation is easily implemented, is non threatening as the car is telling them by means of a color coded warning system (such as purple) It would help to prevent people brake-checking each other and other dangerous ways of letting the driver behind you know such as the middle finger.

The U.S. trucking company U.S. Xpress has a system that slows down the truck and resets the following distance if it is too close.precopster wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 01:29 One of the best innovations a company could incorporate is the 2 second gap warning system to let the car behind you know that for the given speed they are travelling (and the speed that you are travelling) that they are dangerously close and could collide with you in case of an emergency stop.
Every time a four wheeler cuts off a U.S. Xpress truck, the truck slows down to reset the following distance.
Annoying to the US Xpress driver and anybody follow him.
U.S. Xpress has stated the investment payed off in a very short time period.
I like to see a system that scolds the passer if they try to change lanes too soon.

Be that as it may, observing while out on the road, we can see evidence of those in that mid range driving badly. My own experience seems to indicate it's probably close to equal, with causes being different across the spectrum.

UK: SUPPORTING SAFE DRIVING INTO OLD AGE: A National Older Driver Strategy
Police records show that the risk of an older driver over 70 killing a pedestrian is less than that of middle-age drivers and half that of drivers aged up to age 25.

In ballparks, at 55 mph, a 18 wheeler needs about 300' to stop, where a car stops in about 100'RickHaleParker wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 12:04Every time a four wheeler cuts off a U.S. Xpress truck, the truck slows down to reset the following distance.

Manufacturers could also incorporate systems that can give you a monthly driving performance based on various factors such as exceeding zoned limits, changing lane in an aggressive fashion (higher sideward G's), changing two lanes at once and keeping safe proximity to the vehicle in front given present conditions and .
The display could give you a report and total score and graphs based on previous results. In fleets this report could be emailed to the managers and a "driving safely" or "gentlest driver" based on reasonable acceleration Gs bonus could be awarded to the highest score. No longer would we need to call trucking and transport companies to complain of drivers' behavior. Lower scores could attract a "needs improvement" alert that would stop drivers getting a "safe driver" bonus each month.
If you hit people where it hurts the most some good has to come of it.

Runways are the result of brake fade. The only technology that will arrest a runaway is runaway ramps.

It happened in Lakewood area....DOT will investigate. I do not buy the "brakes failed."
"When asked whether there were any mechanical issues with the truck, Countryman said it is something his department is looking into, but he believes even if there were a mechanical issue, vehicular manslaughter charges would still stick. "
He was not paying attention, imho.......cars stuck in a jam is nothing new in Denver area. Imho, this 23 year old driver was "high balling" with his attention focused elsewhere. He was eastbound, so sun was not a factor.
