I pulled the head on the B5254T and need to know what this pocture says!!!! Or is the corrosion normal? Also will post pic of old gasket....would like to know if its the original or not......Thanks guys

It isn't corrosion, it is carbon deposits and it is pretty normal. A Seafoam treatment every year or two helps burn the stuff off.

Thanks. Another quick question.....i gor some valve stem seals in the kit.....Victor rainze.....are they a reliable brand? Is is better to just put them in for now instaed of leaving the old OE ones? Thanks

why did you pull it? interesting 1 or 5 (cant tell which) has different burn pattern. wire brush the deposits off as they cause predestination. ( hate the spell check, not sure if its my computer or this site?)

Head Gasket.......should I install them....if it a good idea to do so....I am planning on using the valve grinding compound to clean vavles and vavle chamber's

Always replace a head gasket - they are typically a single use item.

Wouldn't necessarily use valve grinding compound on all that, it isn't really needed. A brass brush will do wonders.

Ok I am asking are the Victor Rainze valve stem seals reputable...are they good to install and wont have to be back in the engine...i know some gaskets and seals ...( I am replacing head gasket its blown..... Thats the whole reason I'm doing this....) Are the victor rainze valve stem seals good?

we dont know if the seals are good, people are afraid to try them. Probably they would be be better than 20 year old Volvo ones.
rubber parts in a hot oil bath really have to be right. Dont use any valve compound. lapping the valves ruins the undercut on the seats. take each valve out and wire brush it (on a motor) and put it back in the same hole it came out of. particularly clean the stems of build up. If any of the valves wiggle in the guide or you see any burning on the seat or if any valve wiggles when spun in a drill then you need to take it and have a valve job. most would take a light surface cut on the head but you can check with a straight edge for warp. If the leak caused metal loss then you need to surface the head. People have said the victor head gaskets work.
which cylinder(s) had low compression, could you see it on the head gasket? what were the symptoms?

I've always taken heads to a machine shop (call around for one familiar with Volvo.) If I know I don't know, it's better to pay someone to do it right.

The fee should include cleaning, plaining, valve checking, leak testing and lubricating.

A good shop will also stand behind their work and use quality parts if replacing is necessary.
