If you hate your door chime...

Post by jblackburn »

Rip out this relay. It controls the ANNOYING door chime and seatbelt reminder lights, which you should have the common sense to put on anyway being a Volvo driver

There are no adverse affects on any of the other components.

It is in the lower central electrical unit which is mounted on the firewall, high, just under where the fuse box is located. As I recall it is labeled as relay 212 (my memory fades with age) but it has slots cut in the front of it. You need to remove the lower dash panel and then be a contortionist to get to it.

Yep, what Lee said. It's actually one of the easier ones to get to on it, as it's on the bottom row of relays on my S70. I'm also pretty small though, so it may be easier for me to crawl up under there

Now the windshield wiper relay...that's a fun one...

SOOOO! This is cool but to be REALLY cool tell me where the relay is that controls that unbelievably annoying Beotch at the "self checkout" in the supermarket! You know, the one that orders us around & demands us to "put item in the bagging area" or "Scan new item or PAY ME!@!!", while you try to find out where they hid the scanner tag. ... LOL ... I want to strangle the crow! ... "Unexpected item in the bagging area!" SHUT THE H**L UP Beotch!!! ...Buying beer ... "Approval needed" which absolutely stops the whole process. If the attendant (previously known as the checker) is standing at his or her station I hold up my hand & show, display, the beverage because I haven't been asked for ID in forty years & then scan that first! LOL ... Kinda like getting driving directions from the net. They need to start about # 5 or # 6. I already KNOW how to get out of my neighborhood onto the freeway!
Your immediate response with the exact information is requested!! Hehehe (Lawd! I feel so much better for getting this off my chest, fact is, you don't have to respond!

I haven't used one in a while, but all of the ones I did use had a mute button.

Thanks so much for posting this, I just removed mine, hallelijia. I'm going to go Office Space on that damn relay:

For anyone else following these instructions, it wasn't obvious to me that the relay is inside the car, not under the hood. So remove the panel above your knees below the steering wheel, curse whoever designed it since the tabs are probably already broken or will break (the previous owner added a screw from the left side which strikes me as a good idea), then look up and youll see the relay. Pull that light blue relay near the bottom, you can see the pic above. Do it with the thing beeping and you should obviously hear the beeping stop when you pull the right one. And suddenly there will be peace.

Call me weird, but I just buckle up. Done.

As for the U-Check lady, just look for a little speaker icon.
Most of them take two clicks to mute. She IS annoying...

The seat belt reminder goes off 5 times and shuts up (I usually buckle up before than anyway). The 'open door keys in ignition' chime is nice cause I seem to forget my keys quite frequently now that my 'door open' sensor stopped working. I do wish it would shut up if the engine was on though when I open the door (cause that makes sense). Other than that, I hardly find the chime annoying. Can't be more annoying than the Volvo whose door open chime plays Africa by Toto.
