There are some not-so-sane Volvo people on the west coast who would likely pay at least $1500 for an okay '93 Volvo 850. I would rather it go to them than the crusher. There never were a lot of 93s to begin with.

I just dropped it off at the crusher yard and got my check. I guess that makes me one of the sane west coast Volvo people. With the cash I could get a '97 but the dash board plastics may be about to crack like potato chips. Could an industrial 3-D printer print a new one?

93 was some year for volvo, 240. 940. 960 and 850. That would have been a tough choice for a customer to make, Especially for the 850 turbo which was 38,000 dollars which would be the equivalent of maby 80k in now dollars. The only dog there was the 960. Hard to understand how the 240 made it so far out of the freshness date. Especially since the 940 was almost the same.

Yes, but the cost of the setup would cost more than your check.
You can harvest one from one of the non-O3 States like ours which won't be crusty for peanuts

240 and 940 were nothing alike! To the soccer mom the 240 was a convenient utility wagon which made the design timeless. I was one of those customers back then and the 740 was my preference as far as the 40 cars went. Honestly the 960 Royal was bar none the top of the range. I absolutely loved my 960. The 960 gave a superior ride and was quieter for example. A person today cannot objectively judge a comparison of 30 year old car models. Mainly because public perception changes. June

Ive never seen a royal. gas was cheaper then and the early 960 are handsome, but the engine is slow and a lot of fan noise etc. My sister bought one new in 93. Its still sitting here. I asked her the other day why she didnt get the 850. she said it cost too much. also they weren't pushed or even present at dealerships. In retrospect she should have got the anniversary wagon 240. I consider my 93 940t far more drivable than the 240, though not as well made. People think its a 240. Im putting 240 steel rims on it with 8x15 barrels
so it will look even more like a 240. the 7 series I dont like the ass end.
