Oil Filler Cap Seized

Oil Filler Cap Seized

Anyone seen this one before? I think this is why the oil condition was so bad, I don't think the previous owner changed the oil for a while. The cams were coated with oil resin or varnish. Anyways any tips appreciated thanks
PS how do the cam lobes and lifters get oil? I see the oil port feeding the cam journals but don't see how it gets to lobes.

Big pipe wrench, or, worst case, get a new one from a supporting MVS vendor in hand, then bash it off with a Swedish Thor Hammer.

You can try to angle a straw from a can of penetrating oil up around the edge of the cap. Then take a big pie wench and go for broke. Buy another cap as well. Odds are it will start leaking after this.

A pipe wrench or channel lock pliers tend to work well. I've dealt with some that are pretty tight. Fortunately a new cap is cheap, so it would be a good idea to get a new one if yours is all gummed up and crusty.

Snatch a couple of almost any Volvo your year or later and replace with OEM or IPD 0 ring. Don't drop any plastic bits in the upper motor if the cap shatters. Push down a little if you can when you rotate old one off. Penetrating oil sounds good. But if you have peeked @ the cam lobes you must have the cap off already??

Pie wench it is! Thanks for all the great replies, most appreciated. Is it just me or all those short torx head screws on the cam cover so you can see if your cams are getting oil ? Or maybe to lube them on start up because it can take so long for the head to get oil when you rebuild?

If those are the torx screws I'm thinking of, those are to check valve adjustment on solid lifter cars.
