0261203628 is a US spec 850 R with M4.3. No doubt about it.

As to your actual issue, it kind of sounds like you're using the wrong pins... if you switch the two "grounds", you'll have a steady light and no function. Put the + in 16, one ground in 5 and the other in the pin for the module you want to read. There should be a steady light. Put car in ON - light should go out, and you can use the momentary switch for 1 second. Should be light while the switch is pressed, then go out for ~2-5 seconds, then code readout.

- S
2018 S90 T8 Inscription - glossy black with amber interior and dark as night rear windows.
[Gone] '96 855 T5 - R bumper and spoiler, Koni Yellows & blue H&R springs all 'round.
[Sold] '97 S70 T5
[Gone] '95 855 T5-R - one of the black ones... sadly stolen and wrecked.

I figured it was 4.3. Wouldn’t have been upset if I was wrong.

I’ll give it another go, I wanted to work on it this weekend, ended up rebuilding a leaky oil cooler line instead. Probably less contorting than climate control work, though.

Motronic 4.4 started showing up in some '96 850s.
"97 is pretty much the year they moved to Motronic 4.4.
The LED code readers work for reading ECC codes on the '97 850's. It doesn't care whether the ECU is 4.3 or 4.4.

OP, make sure you're connected to the proper pins. The pic in the linked post shows a connection for reading ECU codes (#3), and not ECC codes (#6). I used a 1K Ohm resistor in my set-up and have used in on my '96GLT, '97GLT, and '97T5.

I’m going with the resistor is the issue, double and triple checked I had the right pins.

Time to order some resistors.

Once that’s sorted out, I’m assuming this set up would work fine for abs codes, too? I realized last night my abs/tracs lights don’t light up on the dash.

The LED doesn't care but some of the 4.4 have the flash code routine some do not.
He would be better off with a ELM327 and 850 OBD-II. Which was developed for the Volvo 850.

For engine codes, sure, but for his ECC codes, the LED should be sufficient. I use an BT ELM327 unit for engine codes on the cars.

Got a Windows PC or a Mac? 850 OBD-II will run under the free Android emulator NOX Player.

I for one couldn’t get that app to do diddly squat. Wouldn’t even connect to anything, let alone tell me something useful. So I’m also using my trusty blinky tool.

The BT connect can be touchy. Aleksi Venäläinen has been notified, he going to work on that. Even with that short coming, I find it less work then counting flashes.
