Ahem, there's no such thing as a 12v led... A 12v led is just an led that someone else already wired up... Splitting hairs I know.

A true 12V LED has a chip resistor included in the same package as the LED.

This is a true 12V green LED. It has the current limiting resistor built in.
The chip resistor is selected for 12V operation.
No additional resistor needed. That is what qualifies it as a 12V LED.

I know what you're saying of course, but there's still no such thing as a 12 volt led. LEDs vary with their color from 2.1 volts to 3.4 volts. That green led has a forward voltage of around 2.5 volts depending on it's shade of green. Adding the resistor is just the process if wiring it up (whether it's embedded in the LED's diffuser at a factory or soldered to it). I can also buy LEDs with resistors already added to the wire and neatly heat shrinked, but I wouldn't call those "true 12v LEDs" either.

It is a 12V device for the same reason the radio is a 12V device.

You power a 12 V DC LED with 6 2VDc batteries wired in series, of course .

No No ... you use 8 AA, AAA, C, or D cells in series.
