UPDATE:
Yesterday on my commute home the fan speed knob would turn the fan on, but I couldn’t toggle it off; fan was stuck on high speed. If I twisted the knob past the off position a few times (that is, completely counter clockwise), it would slowly change fan speeds, but would never turn all the way off; always stuck on lowest speed. Lights around knob still work. Had to pull the fuse again to get the blower to shut off after turning car off and removing key.
This morning I put the fuse back in and tried to turn on the air. The lights around the knob worked but now the fan doesn’t turn on AT ALL. Is the blower motor totally dead or is this still maybe a resistor issue?

Much more likely the fan than the MOSFET pack (transistor power control, not a resistor pack on these cars, I think, jimmy?)

Oh my God, you guys. This car is driving me nuts. Today the fan worked fine, no issues—weird. On my way home I had some engine hesitation and cutting out out; got a CEL with message “Engine System Service Required” —figured it might be time for a new spark coil. I scanned with code reader when I got home and it says no codes found! Grrr.

How may miles in your 2006 S60?
It looks like the blower motor and/or resistor is acting up.
I recently lubricated the blower motor using a few drops of oil.
I wrote the tricks in the thread below, basically 5 screws and the blower is out (afgter glovebox is removed).
Not difficult at all.
Make sure you make the proper diagnosis first. Most people here say use Behr blower motor ($150) and Behr resistor ($50).

Just turned 181,000 a few weeks ago.
I got the Behr resistor from Groton for like $50. Planning on replacing resistor this weekend when I have time.

At 180K miles, the blower motor has lived its life.
I personally think you should replace the blower motor too.
You need it the most during the winter.
When it fails in the winter, it is not a fun job.

For 5th screw Torx socket + swivel ext + 1/4" extension + 1/4" ratchet.
Left hand applying pressure making sure the socket bites (to prevent stripping), then right hand on the ratchet.

Be sure to install all screws and not to break the tabs, so as not to have water leaks from the blower
I use a torx socket with my 3/8 ratchet
If you only have a small torx tip, like those that fit on a screw driver, can use an adjustable pliers, or a 3/8" regular socket size 1/4" imperial, the torx tip fits inside with a small piece of paper to secure it.
