I wish I had some excuse to buy this:

Low miles, turbo, loaded (even has the heated seats), pristine. Dayum.

For whatever it's worth, I live in San Francisco and just bought my s70 in San Diego... Flew down one way to pick it up. Buying the one way plane fare that afternoon was $180 and I was able to use that as a bargaining point and got half from the seller.

The roadtrip home was a fun way to get to know the car. Of course that's assuming there's no surprises, and my roadtrip was pretty short compared. I had him send over the maintenance records and do the pcv test before I went down.

On the other end of the spectrum, this $500 S70 non turbo just came up. One cyclindar isn't firing, I wonder if they tried the obvious things:

Not that it matters much, but the car in question is a 98', not a 99'.

It is really clean though and priced right.
98' S70, base, 5-speed manual, pewter/ tan, 145k miles
99' S70, base, 5-speed manual, nautic blue/ tan, 225k miles, currently inop
06' V70, auto, willow green/ charcoal, 147k miles
79' Ford Capri S, Euro Spec 2.8 V6, T9 5-speed manual, owned since 1986
58' Porsche Diesel Junior
13' Honda Odyssey
84' Mercedes 300 D, gold/ tan, 420k miles (retirement project :D )

No you don't want to buy it. The driver's side fender and door is of different shade and sheen from the rear door and quarter panel. Obvious in photo 1 and a little in photo 4. Working off a HP Omen 32" monitor plus having painted an old Ford Van beginning to end some 30 years ago.

My mechanic at the time was kind enough to do this in his garage a couple of times a week after work. Took awhile as his dad use to own a body shop so we didn't cut corners in terms of methodology.

For CA Owners
Type In The License Number 4ULV372 For This Car
https://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/pubwebquer ... stQry.aspx

CA Smog is done every 2 years after the initial 4 years when cars were new back then. I think it's 6 years now before Smog is required on a new car. The owner was consistent in getting the smog done on time every 2 years. You can see it was taken care of but... My guess is either the car had mechanical issues or it sat due to an accident and didn't get fixed again till around mid 2018 from the late smog.

It was a one owner vehicle till sometime after 10/20/15 and it did not pass Smog again till 06/26/18. Either the original owner sold it or got it fix to sell now.
Blessings,

BKM

You have to get it smogged on time or you get tagged for no sticker. It definitely sat, and accident is plausible

Great data from CARB,

Same owner since plates don’t transfer with cars like EU

Awesome resource and great detective work.

For anyone coming this way after the ad is taken down, here's the results for CA plate 4ulv372:

Code: Select all

Make	Model	Year	Date / Time	Pass / Fail	Certificate	Referee Inspection
VOLVO	S70	1998	06/26/2018 02:54 p.m.	P	QI843883C	NO
VOLVO	S70	1998	10/20/2015 04:03 p.m.	P	PY120342C	NO
VOLVO	S70	1998	09/27/2013 04:23 p.m.	P	XZ147731C	NO
VOLVO	S70	1998	09/23/2011 03:28 p.m.	P	OG707444C	NO
VOLVO	S70	1998	09/18/2009 02:39 p.m.	P	NM963935C	NO

VOLVO	S70	1998	09/20/2003 09:48 a.m.	P	FD821669C	NO
That shows an 8 month lateness for the last smog. I've certainly been late on registering before, but usually just a couple months max. Going over 6 months means an automatic tow if they see it, so agreed there's something happening here other than usual lateness. I suppose it *could* be that the car simply wasn't being used anymore, hence the sale...

I emailed the seller to see if he has any comment on the paint discoloration. I can't see it on my crappy laptop monitor, but damn good catch.
