OEM Tool kit screwdriver: Why?

Post by wooshuck »

If you have a Volvo made after 1993, the tool kit contains a Felo screwdriver with interchangeable shafts.
The shafts have either Phillips or flat-bade ends, or one of several Torx sizes.
However, one screwdriver blade is just round, like a mandrel or dowel.
Any idea what this is used for?

I have worked on other cars where dowels were placed in pinholes to HOLD TENSIONERS. however THE Volvo SERPENTINE BELT tensioner could not accommodate this size dowel pin.

I leave it to the Volvo brain trust to enlighten me.

Thanks!

Where should that toolkit be? I don't have it in my 94, 95 or 96.

I have that kit - it's been in all 4 Volvos I've had. Always found it in the rear, with the spare tire. As to OP's question, I've wondered the same. Never found a use for that thing.

Any photos? I don't recall this from my 850's kit. Just a Phillips/standard flip around.

Perhaps it is explained in the owners manual in the spare tire section. Volvo is usually thorough covering every conceivable thing. June

Could be some form of slider for moving the jack around quickly... Just throwing a dart out there in the potentials

Sounds plausible... =)

Hello wizechatmgr,
The actual lever pin for the tires, if you have one, is a 12mm x 1,75mm x 75mm screw-in pin. Not to mention the small one that's used to align genuine Volvo rims on 850s.

This would be way too small.

Since all the wrenches with the Volvos are Gedore wrenches made in India and are open ended, it is unlikely that this round pin is used as a lever crank.

I'm thinking the real answer is this conversation between Sven and Bengt:

Sven: " Vat you wanna poot on diss screwdriver ending?

Beng:, ja sure I dunno. Leave it round and the Yankees, dey vill wonder in deir forums

Sven and Bengt (laughing): Ja sure, dis would be good yoke on dem, ja? Ho Ho Ho!
