2001 v70 base stereo replacement

Post by CIK7 »

My factory speaker system is garbage. Both pairs of tweeters are weak, the front door speakers dont work at all, but the two rear ones are perfect. Ive used the equalizer and 3Ch/Dolby PL buttons to figure out how bad the system is. I want to replace all the main speakers in my car. I can not find anywhere that gives the max speaker sizes for the whole car. Front door, rear door, and center dash. I have the HU-803 stereo (which it seems is the pick of most people when it comes to factory head units). I do not have the center speaker and need to know exactly where to wire it to on the head unit. Is the there a bracket i need to buy for it? Are there brackets to fit new door and center speakers and tweeters? Im not going to replace the head unit, its decent and i have an Anker Roav SmartCharge F2 to play music off of a USB stick. Tune the radio to a static station and then the same for the charger unit.

I want yall to know that i did search the forums on the speaker system but couldnt find what i was looking for.

I have a few videos on my channel about these, unfortunately you'll need to scroll down and search with ctrf+f for something like 'radio'

Basically, if you don't have the center speaker, the car came with the HU-613 unit and the PO upgraded. See under front pass seat if the amp is there. I wonder if there are front speakers inside the front doors .. who knows what the previous owner did there..

It definitely has the HU-803. Says it on the unit where the model is on all. The dealer i bought it from did a bad job of repairing the driver door before installing it. The driver speaker will let out occasional static when i switch to the front side. The pass side is dead though. For the center speaker, you see the pic there^. Maybe the dealer replaced the head unit. What do you mean by PO?

The doors are 6,5". Any regular speaker with shallow-ish mounting depth will fit. Old speaker holders are reused after original speakers have been removed using mild force and heat to soften the glue.

I just followed the link. It doesnt show the size for the dash center speaker. I also would like to know if its difficult to add the factory wiring to it since its not standard in my car.

It is my understanding that all cars that came with the Premium HU-803 sound system from the factory, were also equipped with a dash speaker. It's the fact your car doesn't have this dash speaker that made me think the car didn't came from the factory with the HU-803 unit - which was possibly installed by a previous owner. https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-md ... 25594/2004

As for the dash speaker, I mention in one of the videos how to connect it. There is a specific pin for the wires, but you can also bridge the two front speakers (don't recommend bridging if you listed to music at high volume). I don't know the size for this speaker, but I recommend finding a used genuine one off Ebay complete with its holder, and just swap the holder and run a wire.
