power lock - 98 s70

Post by dkbmx »

I am having problems with my door locks. The passenger door stays unlocked regardless of the position of the locking post. From what I understand I am gong to need a new door lock?

But what I can't figure out is why my power locks will not work. When I use the power unlock, I can hear 2 clicks from the front drivers side, but nothing unlocks except for the trunk. The trunk is the only thing the power locks has an effect on. I recently purchased the vehicle with this problem. with the age and miles (131,000) could it be that I just need to replace all of the locks?

Thanks for the help!

Possibly, these lock/actuators DO fail but all at once is rather rare unless they have been bad for a while.
Not cheap, (over $250 installed per door) you may want to think about this or just do the front one(s).
Even if you buy a used lock, it will be at least 40-50 bucks and STILL an hour and a half labor per door to install!

When I bought the car, about a month ago, none of the windows, sunroof, door locks, power mirrors worked. He said that it was the "main relay", which I found out was the master window switch. Replacing that solved the other problems, but the door locks remain a mystery to me. I am guessing that they went bad on him and he simply neglected to replace them. How long do they typically last before they need replacing? It is a 98 with about 132k miles.

Inside the lock assembley is a little red actuator pin that runs inside a cam guide. When this moves up (unlock) or down (lock) it moves the lock into position accordingly. Mine BROKE! Cheap crappy plastic. Check to see if it came out or broke. This can happen if someone had their elbow on the lock while trying to move up/ down, or it needed lubrication. I don't know if you can buy this part or not. If possible, got to a you-pull-it junkyard.

Good Luck
