Fuel door lock Topic is solved

So my 2002 v70 doesn't lock...I know it has the little motor at the door it has the blank on the dash and I can get the button from the junkyard... the question is...is there a fuse or relay I need to add? I'm sure there is... just don't know where...if someone could point me in the right direction .. it's appreciated. Thanks to all the moderators in advance...

The lock on the fuel filler door should lock a few minutes after locking the car. (To allow you to fill-up after locking your car at the gas station.)
My s60 is about the same vintage as your v70, when the filler lock stopped working it was because things had got a bit sticky with age. Removing the locking mechanism, opening it up, giving a bit of silicone lube and "exercising" it back and forth a dozen times seemed to get it working.

On these cars, adding additional switches for new gadgets will almost always need a software update to work.

I hear what your saying RC.. but my wagon never had a locking door... Volvo pre-wires them and I need to go to the junkyard and pop out the switch on the dash and figure out what and where the fuse/ relay goes. Once I jump that hurdle..then yeah...it will lock the door after 5 miles an hour.if figure it out on my own then I'll post...top solved. MDK rooooolling on!

Wait a minute! Have you obtained and consulted the wiring diagrams for your car? They're available online and have the answers hidden within. I checked the diagram for my 02 V70 and it seems simple. The components are:
Lock motor, 6/37, powered by
Locking relay in the REM, Relay RMI21, 2/59

They call it a filler flap, so that's what you should search the diagram index for.

When you have the parts installed (go for the relay first), you will see if you get power to the lock.

BTW, in my car, there's the locking filler flap, but no switch in the dash.

Thanks Dr Dan... electronic side of any car truck suv or whatever is my weakness. Filler flap? Huh...I guess there's a translation issue from Swedish to English... I'm sure. Mechanically these P2's are rock solid though.

MDK here... here's the deal. I'm upgrading my wagon with a locking fuel door that never had one. It's prewired... has the little motor... just need to get the button on the dash... what was stopping me was ... relay location until now.

MDK, I don't think you need a button. At least there is none on my wagon. The lock just triggers with the the central lock, but with a delay of some minutes when locking.

Also, are you sure the car never had that feature? I would think it comes with the central locking by default. That would mean that you're not retrofitting but repairing...

Dr Dan.. I'm a mad scientist..or I'm just mad.i did this to my 1999 S70 .AWD .it didn't have front fog lights. I got the lights from an xc.. swapped out the headlight control module under the front fuse panel .. popped out the blank in the dash and installed the switch in the dash. Then I cut the little grills down around the fog lights. I added R wheels ..load bars .. adjusted the waste gate. I wish I still had a picture of it. She was cool. And fast I took it to Columbus Ohio and traded it even... for a 2004 S60 R AWD... which I currently have now. ... madness. MDK
