I went to NAPA today and grabbed two cans of Sea Foam, and wow! That stuff is great!
I put 1/3 can in my intake, 2/3 in my crankcase, and another can in the fuel tank... After blowing white smoke out of my tailpipe for a few minutes, I now have a noticably smoother idle. The can says it's also supposed to give me smoother acceleration, and slightly better mpg. Well, so far, I'm beleiving it!

Great to here that. I have heard some good things about Sea Foam in the intake and fuel systems.
On a different note I have also heard of gasket leaking issues after Sea in the crank case - may be coincidence (like leaks after using synthetic oil).
Could you detail how you sent it through the intake. Did you allow a vacume hose to suck it up ot a different method?
Cheers,
T

I couldn't find a vacuum tube that looked sufficiently large, and would feed in the right place, so I carefully opened the airbox, and put a towel over it to keep anything from getting in, then I poored it into the intake. Do so slowly, otherwise your engine will stall (I didn't stall mine, but it did choke for a second, so I knew I needed to slow down.
The seals leaking bit is bull. Synthetic does not cause your engine to leak. If anything, a leak existed, but dino oil had clogged and become a plug. Synthetic breaks up the clog and the leak shows... It was there before, and synthetic didn't cause the leak.

Yup. But I'm wondering if atomizing will clean throttlebody etc before reaching the injectors.

I agree. There are a lot of myths that are passed back and forth from unknowing mechanics to others. Another myth is bearing skate because of synthetic oil being too slippery.potroast wrote:The seals leaking bit is bull. Synthetic does not cause your engine to leak. Sorry I didn't make my post clearer.

I used one of the plugged vacume lines just after the throttle body to pull in the Seafoam. I removed the air intake and throttle body cover to get to the vacume tree. I pulled the vacume plug and attached a short hose so that it could siphon the Seafoam out tof the can. It sucked about 2/3 of a can blowing a massive amount of white smoke. ( I ran the revs to 2k during the process). I took a few pics and when I get a little time I wll send Matthew the pics with details.potroast wrote:I couldn't find a vacuum tube that looked sufficiently large, and would feed in the right place, so I carefully opened the airbox, and put a towel over it to keep anything from getting in, then I poored it into the intake. It seems to idle a bit smoother. I will be running the 850 from Atlanta to Daytona next week and I will check my milage. I usually get about 28 running +10 over the speed limit with AC on the highway.

I purchased seafoam as well. I did add it to the TB (2/3 can slowly), the gas (1 Whole can) and crankcase (1/3 can). The smoke show is similar to cropdusting. Its pretty funny. After I added it to the oil, I drove about 20 miles and started to here a faint lifter noise that wasn't there before. I then drained the oil and replaced it with Mobile 1 synthetic. The noise could be my mind playing tricks on me though. I did notice a smoother idle and quicker response. This was done on a 93 corolla with 193K on it. I might do the process except adding it to the crankcase on my turbo wagon. 2 cans = 12.00 plus tax at oreilly's
