Temperamental misfiring
Temperamental misfiring
I have an 87 244 that I bought in December. I turbocharged it, and it ran great... until it didn’t. The issue started with a misfire that happened after I did a little pull. The engine shook horribly and wouldn’t run for more than 5 or so seconds before dying, almost like it had skipped time. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes, unplugged the MAF, and it fired right up. Drove the car another 2 or so hours and it happened again at the end of the drive, exactly the same. I parked it overnight, and did a timing belt, tensioner, and fuel pressure regulator. Now the car will run without the maf until it has load on the engine... after about 1/4 throttle it misfires badly and cuts out. It also is pouring white smoke out the tailpipe, and smells very rich. With the maf plugged in, it will idle but has a very bad lope and sounds like it has a huge cam. It pulls nearly 0 vacuum with the maf plugged in, but has plenty with it unplugged. What would I look at next? Plugs were fouled so I replaced them, but not sure to look at now with no apparent leaks.
