2008 xc70 park brake module

Post by blurat »

Hi all, Got into my car the other day and a message about park brake needs service appeared, My electric brakes quit,
Used my dice unit and found the control module was at fault. Called the dealer because they say the unit needs to be reprogramed after installation. Wont install a new one unless they diagnose the problem for 150 bux,
Drove to Sacramento, 60 miles, waited 3 hours, they came out and said it was my park brake control module, they didn't have one in stock, 150 please.
Question is, can I program a new module in the driveway somehow with my dice unit or need to install the module and let the dealer program it for 70 dollars?
Thanks for reading

Im in the same predicament with my XC.

How did you fair?
I see you can buy new modules on easy for around US$120.
Wondering if I can buy the part and code it with DICE.

I suspect the module requires a software download from Volvo to program it. Like many other modules, for example the electronic rear view self-dipping mirror, in this instance there are three levels of dimming that can be programed through vida. When I first started using vida on my xc I could read the setting, it was "standard", after changing this to "dark" the option to change it again disappeared, because the software download was expired. I would liken this somewhat to downloading a program on a Mac and installing it, on installation the installation zip is sent to the trash.
So the short answer is, as only the dealer (or an independent Volvo specialist) has the option to download software for which they are charged, so you will need them to do the job. Not the answer you wanted to hear, I'm sorry, it's a pain I know.

Hi Nick, thanks for the reply.
The luxury of Volvo, parts can be tricky to track down and when you do they need to be coded when installed.
But when they run they are such great cars!
Looks like Ill order the part and fit it then then book the car in with an independent Volvo guy up the coast from me to do the coding.
