Unholy p0500 code

I've always wanted a Volvo wagon finally found one that was supposed to run good just needed a battery, door handles and exhaust went to drive it home and it was shifting funny check engine light was on and then it didn't want to shift into over drive got it home ran the codes and was given the p0500 code it is the auto trans model and no abs codes or light and the light does work I looked up the vss sensor at O'Reilly and can't figure out where it would go cause it just looks like a pigtail any ideas once again this is my first Volvo and don't want to get rid of it cause I can't fix it
